En medio de una pandemia se llevaron a cabo los premios Mtv Video Music Awards 2020. Los cuales no reunieron a una audiencia en vivo, en la mayoría de las actuaciones, pues el Estado de Nueva York y su gobernador Andrew Cuomo, no lo permitían. Uno de los shows más importantes de la música llegó a su 36a edición con presentaciones pregrabadas, desde distintas ciudades y con categorías nuevas.
La ganadora indiscutible de la noche fue Lady Gaga. Quien de nueve nominaciones, se llevó 4 más el premio Tricon Award que honra su trayectoria como cantante, actriz y activista social.

Mtv aseguró que el año que viene realizarán los premios desde el Barclays Center (Brooklyn), un complejo deportivo multiusos con capacidad para 19 mil personas. En este recinto se llevó a cabo la edición del 2013. Donde, por cierto, fue la última vez que Gaga se había presentado en los VMA’s con el tema «Applause» de su disco Artpop, así es, Gaga estuvo siete años sin presentarse en estos premios.
